ELEN 4627 Data Communications Networks

Study of the ISO reference model. Analysis of electrical interface, data transmission, error control, and data transmission protocols. Study of communication technologies including Local Area Networks, Broadband Area Networks, and packed switching. Study of the functioning of bridges, routers, switches, circuit switched networks, Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM), and virtual circuit. Design of networks. Data networks simulation using the computer. Requires 45 hours of lecture and 45 hours of lab.
