Education in Autism Spectrum Disorder (Post-Bachelor Professional Certificate)

The Professional Certificate in Education in Autism Spectrum Disorder is designed for professionals with a bachelor's, master's or doctoral degree who wish to learn about and develop skills for screening, evaluation, intervention and recognition of the core characteristics of Autism Spectrum Disorder, and completing referrals. The program will prepare the student to develop, in a psychoeducational context, skills for diagnosis, management and appropriate interventions, as well as the treatment of students with autism spectrum disorder.

The San Germán campus is authorized to offer this Certificate.

The Program is designed to develop the competencies that will enable the student to:

Knowledge

Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of:

1. the theoretical principles of autism, as well as the different explanatory theories.
2. Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), according to the current DSM.
3. the special educational needs of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
4. the needs of families of individuals with ASD.
5. aspects of preference-based measures in the evaluation of ASD.
6. treatment of Autism Spectrum Disorder.
7. educational intervention, as well as mastery of methods used with students with ASD.
8. appropriate technological assistance for the intervention and improved functioning of students with ASD.
9. adaptation of teaching skills for students with ASD.

Skills

Evaluate and diagnose students with ASD.

1. Use different treatments for ASD.
2. Design intervention plans for students with ASD.
3. Use in a psychoeducational context, the competencies of diagnosis, management and appropriate intervention and treatment of students with ASD.
4. Use technological assistance.

Admission Requirements

To be admitted to the Program, the student should:

1. Hold a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree from an acknowledged and accredited institution of higher education.
2. Comply with all admission regulations as stated in the Graduate Catalog.

Academic Progress Requirements

The academic progress requirements for the Professional Certificate in Autism Spectrum Disorder Education are:

1. Comply with all academic progress norms as stated in the University catalog.
2. Pass all courses with a minimum B grade.

Graduation Requirements

In addition to meeting all the graduation requirements established in the Graduate Catalog, the applicant for this professional certificate in Autistic Spectrum Disorder Education throughout the one-year program must:

1. Be a regular student.
2. Have a grade point average of 3.00 or more in the courses required for the degree.
