Specialization in Autism Spectrum Disorder Education
The Master of Arts in Autism Spectrum Disorder Education is designed to prepare competent professionals with the skills necessary to use new knowledge and abilities in the psychoeducational diagnosis, management, and appropriate interventions for students with autism spectrum disorder. Train professionals with knowledge and sensitivity for the education of students with ASD, in addition, develop knowledge in technology and its application.
The San Germán Campus is authorized to offer this program.
Competencies for Graduate's Profile
The Program is designed to develop the skills that allow the student to:
Knowledge
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of:

the theoretical foundations of Autism, as well as the different explanatory theories of it.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) according to the current DSMV.
-
the special educational needs of children with autism spectrum disorder.
-
the needs of families of people with ASD.
-
the areas of social, language, and cognitive development, among others, in the psychopedagogical evaluation of the student with ASD.

psychoeducational intervention for students with ASD.
-
educational intervention, as well as mastering the methods: TEACCH, ABA, MIIA, LINKS, STAR, DIR, PECS, PRT, EIBI, PBS, HANEN, SCERT, Denver, LEAP, among others.

Appropriate technological assistance for the intervention and better functioning of students with ASD.

adapting teaching skills for students with ASD.

the evaluation and pedagogical diagnosis of students with ASD.

Use the different intervention models in ASD.

Design intervention plans for students with ASD.

Use the competencies of psychopedagogical diagnosis, management and appropriate interventions and treatment of students with ASD.

Admission Requirements
To be admitted, the student must:

Possess a bachelor's degree from a recognized and accredited higher education institution.

A statistics course

Students who do not have a specialty in education must take an Introduction to Special Education course.

Comply with all general admission standards established in the Graduate Catalog of the Inter-American University of Puerto Rico, electronic version.
Certification Teaching Personnel for Education Department of Puerto Rico
The student interested in obtaining the certification of teaching staff to practice in Puerto Rico must comply with the current requirements of the Department of Education of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.
Academic Progress Requirements
The academic progress requirements for the proposed Master of Arts in Autism Spectrum Disorder Education are as follows:

Comply with all academic progress standards established in the Graduate Catalog.

Pass all courses with a minimum grade of B.
Graduation requirements
In addition to meeting all graduation requirements established in the Graduate Catalog, the applicant for the Master of Arts in Autism Spectrum Disorder Education, through the one-year program, must:

Be a regular student.

Obtain an academic index of 3.00 or more.

Have completed all the courses required in the Study Program, as established in the Graduate Catalog of the Inter-American University of Puerto Rico.
