Associate Degree of Arts in Billing of Healthcare Services (A.A.)

The Associate Degree of Arts in Billing of Healthcare Services is designed to prepare professionals in billing and collecting insurance payments for medical services provided. Develops in the student the knowledge and technological skills for billing health services within a framework of ethical and legal values.

The Ponce Campus is authorized to offer the program in online education modality. 

Program Goals

The Associate Degree of Arts in Billing of Healthcare Services has the following goals:

  1. Develop professionals with the skills required for the field of health services billing.

  2. Demonstrate commitment and responsibility in managing medical service bills.

  1. Recognize the requirements of insurers and medical plans to issue payments to service providers.

  2. Apply medical terminology, codes and procedures for billing health services.

  3. Value the service within an ethical and legal framework of the profession.

Profile of the graduate's competencies

At the end of their professional training, the graduate will demonstrate specialized competencies in the dimensions of knowledge, skills and attitudes, which are indicated below:

Knowledge

  1. Know the billing processes, tasks and responsibilities of the biller.

  2. Understand current billing legislation and regulations.

Abilities

  1. Use electronic codes, procedures and programs for billing health services.

  2. Produce documents and issue invoices for services or procedures provided to medical plans.

Attitudes

  1. Recognize the ethical and legal principles in the provision of health services.

  2. Assess the importance of carrying out professional work in the billing of medical services.

Graduation requirements

  1. Pass all concentration courses with a minimum grade of C.

  2. Pass the HSBC 2910 Practice course with a minimum grade of B.
