Health Care Risk Management (MA)

Program description

The Master's Degree in Risk Management in the Health Industry is aimed at developing professionals who wish to expand their knowledge in that field. This knowledge will support the development of the business ecosystem in society. The graduate will analyze managerial work, from a managerial risk management perspective to the prevailing government regulation in essential health services for society.

The Metropolitan Campus is authorized to offer this program.

Program goals:

  1. Provide management education opportunities for risk management that contribute to the development of professionals capable of contributing to safety and quality in the provision of health services that include legal regulations.

  2. Propose alternatives to face the challenges relevant to the environment of the health services industry with a view to achieving innovative solutions.

Program objectives:

  1. Strengthen students' management skills for decision making through the use of appropriate information, concepts and techniques.

  2. Expose students to the evaluation of legal risks and the design of mitigation strategies related to prevention, detection, investigation and identification efforts.

Profile of the graduate's competencies

The graduate of the Master's Degree in Risk Management in the Health Industry will demonstrate the following skills:

Knowledge

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of the fundamentals of risk management.

  2. Understand health care services in both state and federal jurisdictions.

  3. Effectively contribute to the development of a safety environment as a value and culture within the organization in health care services in Puerto Rico and the United States.

Abilities

  1. Apply quality concepts to optimize organizational efforts aimed at risk management and reduction.

  2. Apply the concepts and skills related to risk financing and loss control when managing them while maintaining a proactive, objective and sensitive attitude.

Attitudes

  1. Use with integrity and honesty the regulations in litigation processes that apply to the health care risk management program.

Admission requirements:

Students applying for admission to the Master's Degree in Health Care Risk Management must:

  1. Present the results obtained in the Graduate Studies Admission Examination (EXADEP), or in the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or equivalent, with a minimum score of 350 or comply with any measurement test established by the Program, with the exception of those candidates who have a minimum academic index of 2.75 in their high school degree or in the last 60 credits.
