Nursing Care of the Elderly (Post-bachelor Professional Certificate)

The Professional Certificate in Nursing Care of the Elderly aims to train nursing professionals capable of offering care to the elderly.

The San Germán Campus is authorized to offer this certificate.

Competencies Graduate’s Profile

This Professional Certification in Nursing Care of the Elderly is designed to develop the skills that allow the student to:

Knowledge:

Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of:

  1. changes in the aging process from a holistic perspective.

  2. the best evidence-based nursing practices in the care of the elderly.

  3. the participation of the multidisciplinary team in planning nursing care for the elderly.

Abilities:

  1. Perform nursing roles with emphasis on holistic care when caring for the elderly.

  2. Design a nursing care plan based on scientific evidence.

  3. Act as a leader when offering nursing care, considering the bio-psycho-social and spiritual aspects in the elderly, in health and illness.

Attitudes:

  1. Value gerontological cultural diversity that responds to the current needs of the person.

  2. Demonstrate professional values, such as integrity, responsibility, collaboration, competence, and professional development in the administration of nursing services with elderly people, in health and illness.

  3. Demonstrate leadership in providing nursing care to the elderly, in health and illness.

Admission requirements:

  1.  The candidate interested in admission to the program must:

    1. submit evidence of having a Bachelor's degree in Nursing from a recognized and accredited higher education institution, with a minimum average of 2.50.

    2. present evidence of the license as a general nurse, issued by the Nursing Examining Board of Puerto Rico.

    3. submit evidence that you are an active member of the College of Nursing Professionals.

    4. present evidence that you have at least one year of experience in nursing practice.

Retention requirements:

  1. Comply with the requirements of the Graduate Catalog.

  2. Pass all courses with a minimum grade of B.

Graduation requirements: 

In addition to meeting all graduation requirements established in the Graduate Catalog, the applicant for this Professional Certificate in Nursing Care of the Elderly must pass all courses with a minimum grade of B.
