Research Methods (Advanced Interdisciplinary Post Master Professional Certificate)

The Advanced Interdisciplinary Post Master Professional Certificate in Research Methods is aimed at professionals with a master's degree or equivalent professional degrees who wish to develop their research knowledge at an advanced level. The Certificate provides the necessary tools to develop new knowledge, to solve problems and to make complex decisions. It includes different aspects of qualitative and quantitative research, such as writing, research design, data collection and analysis using computerized programs. It promotes the application of various research methodologies in different disciplines, according to the merits, application and interest of the student. The Program requires the development and presentation of qualitative, quantitative or mixed research.

The San Germán Campus is authorized to offer this certificate.

This Advanced Interdisciplinary Post Master Professional Certificate in Research Methods is designed to develop the skills that allow the student:

Knowledge

Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of:

  1. the theories and paradigms of qualitative and quantitative research.
  2. the processes of writing research texts.
  3. advanced statistics used in research.
  4. different designs of qualitative, quantitative and mixed research.
  5. the strategies for the collection and analysis of data in a qualitative, quantitative or mixed research.
  6. the rules, procedures, aspects of research ethics and legal considerations that apply to research processes.

Skills

  1. Write texts related to research, such as essays, research reports, article reviews, monographs and proposals for qualitative, quantitative or mixed research.
  2. Collect and analyze data in qualitative, quantitative or mixed research.
  3. Use programs for data analysis.
  4. Develop original research.

  1. Assess the ethical principles that apply to research.
  2. Respect the laws that regulate research.
  3. Show interest in developing original qualitative, quantitative or mixed research in search of new knowledge and possible solutions to problems in various scenarios.
  4. Share the knowledge acquired through their research.
  5. Objectively criticize research conducted by other researchers.

Admission Requirements

To be admitted to the program, the student must:

  1. Hold a master's degree or equivalent professional degree with a minimum academic index of 3.00 from an accredited university.
  2. Possess a reasonable proficiency of Spanish and English.
  3. Present evidence of having passed a statistics course with a minimum grade of B or instead participate in the Statistics Workshops offered by the Graduate Center for Research and Student Success (CIEEG).
  4. Submit the admission documents to the Program:
    1. Admission request
    2. Transcript of original credits of bachelor’s and master's degree or equivalent professional degree.
    3. An essay on research interest
    4. Have three letters of recommendation sent by university professors or supervisors who can assess the student’s potential to succeed in the program.

Graduation Requirements

In order to meet the graduation requirements of the Interdisciplinary Professional Certificate Program in Research Methods, the student must:

  1. Be a regular student.
  2. Have completed the required courses of the study program as established in the Graduate Catalog.
  3. Have passed the courses with a minimum grade of B.
