University Teaching (MA)

The Master of Arts in University Teaching is aimed at training professionals to work as teachers in higher education. The master's degree presents an academic offer in accordance with the educational needs of higher-level teachers in different university contexts. The curricular design comprises five (5) fundamental areas.

Program Goals

The program, among its goals, aspires to:

  1. Promote the development of professional skills of students through courses and experiences around the historical, theoretical, social, empirical and practical background necessary to carry out teaching limited only by the capabilities of each individual.

  2. Maintain an updated educational offer aimed at training teachers with the knowledge and skills necessary to understand, plan, carry out, analyze and present the results of research in a critical and sensitive manner.

  3. Offer innovative educational alternatives that explore the fundamentals of the design and implementation of educational technologies as a means to complement traditional teaching methods.

Program Objectives

The program has as objectives:

  1. Develop theoretical, methodological and practical knowledge aimed at complementing the skills of students in their fields of action, with knowledge of the background and distinctive characteristics of the university,

  2. Develop teachers who demonstrate sensitivity, awareness, knowledge, and multicultural competence in curriculum design, assessment, teaching, and understanding of the characteristics of postsecondary students.

  3. Integrate research into the teaching task of the discipline and the socio-educational problems of higher education.

  4. Apply technology as an instrument that promotes the integration of significant learning experiences in certain social and cultural environments.

  5. Contribute to continuous professional development through distance education and collaborative agreements between educational institutions.

Students enrolled in the master's degree must have access to a computer with an Internet connection. They must also have basic computer skills and be able to work with applications for word processing, creating electronic presentations, and searching the Internet.

Students who aspire to enter the Master of Arts in University Teaching may have the admission tests stipulated in the Graduate Catalog replaced by an equivalent test.

The Metropolitan Campus is authorized to offer this Program in the distance education modality.

Profile of the graduate's competencies

The Master of Arts in University Teaching is designed to develop the skills that allow the student to:

Knowledge

  1. Recognize the origin of the university and the most recurring debates, controversies and problems around its aims and purposes today.

  2. Explain the current state of knowledge related to educational rights and their effective application in care and ethical-legal problems in the context of post-secondary education.

  3. Analyze the current literature around the theories of organizational behavior and identify how these theories help you to accept, recognize and tolerate the existence of cultural differences in the context of teaching at the postsecondary level.

Abilities

  1. Use teaching and learning theories that promote meaningful learning experiences for students.

  2. Develop techniques for planning and organizing teaching activities related to curricular processes.

  3. Evaluate professional practice and use the data obtained effectively in making decisions related to the course and students.

  4. Promote collaborative environments in the use of emerging educational technologies that contribute to the development of learning communities capable of facing the challenges of post-secondary education.

Attitudes

  1. Respect the ethical and moral values related to the development of research around teaching practices and socio-educational problems of university work.

  2. Value the development of innovative activities that allow them to demonstrate mastery of knowledge inherent to their specialty and the ability to integrate and apply them to the solution of complex problems in an academic environment of dialogue between students and educator.
